"The Maze Runner"
Pencil on paper, 2014.
The Maze Runner hits cinemas tomorrow & one of my favourite people is staring, (it’s a little obvious who that person is xD) SO this is a drawing I’ve been working on for awhile to celebrate the release of this movie and a guy destined for great things!
Hi, thank you so much for contacting me! Of course you do, each and every amazing comment I read I’m just as thankful and amazed to receive as the first, I really appreciate them all :) I’d love to see your drawings? Please drop me a link! I’d be happy to, although you probably don’t need any advice from me ;)
Thanks so much for your message :) I say that all the time about other artwork I see, so it’s actually very surreal to have someone say it to me! The thing I love about art, is everyone is different, personally I feel that my drawings lack expression & energy. Where someone else has that certain element in their work which I long for in mine, it would result in me saying they’re better than I was, but what I have to keep reminding myself is that people draw, paint etc in so many different ways, with different technique and so on it’s almost impossible to judge who’s better than the other because they’re all so different. So I’m sure your work is just as “phenomenal” :)
Now your questions! 1. I use A4 - A3 paper, from any of these makes, seawhite, fabriano, Daler Rowney or Moleskine! I use mechanical pencils (any make) also Faber-Castell pencils, usually I work with 2b - 6b, but I use 9b pencil for dense shadow. I use tissue paper to smudge and blend pencil. 2. I’ve been drawing since I was very young, it’s always been my passion, I’ve never been very academic, but I’ve always been creative. 3. I print a picture for reference, I sometimes use the griding process, which I find very helpful for getting the correct proportions! 4. Hmm, my advice … sounds cheesy, but don’t give up, you’re gonna have bad days, weeks even months, and all you do is create crap, but power through, keep practicing and practicing, challenge yourself and you’ll defiantly grow and learn. 5. I’d say I’m looking forward to seeing your creations, let’s collab! Advice I’d give is to have a scrapbook or folder of inspirations, they help you stimulate ideas, take what they do or create and apply it to your work, recycle it, make it better, your influences will help you find your own identity within your work! I hope this is of help to you! I feel like I’m rambling and wrote you an essay, so I apologise, feel free to ask if you have anymore questions, and very sorry for the ridiculously late reply! :)
THANK YOU SO MUCH! That’s great, I’d love to see some of your work :) Hmm as for tips … I mostly use a mechanical pencil for detail, as I find normal pencils not sharp enough to create fine enough lines!
Firstly, WOW! Thank you all SO much for all your wonderful messages, there’s so many that I’m unable to answer them all individually, so thank you, thank you, thank you! You guys are amazing, I can’t thank you enough for all the kind words, questions and love that’s constantly been shown to my work this past year, I truly appreciate it! Please if anyone wants to ask a question, feel free to ask and I’ll do my best to answer them all, I apologise to some that I haven’t got around to answering yet, you haven’t been forgotten I assure you! :)
Secondly, I see that some of you saw me on Wolf Watch last week! I’m glad you recognised my work! I’m still in disbelief that it actually happened, filming wasn’t until 3am my time, and I hadn’t slept with nerves and excitement, so I was amazed when I watched it back that I was actually able to string coherent sentences together, it was an amazing experience and I was super thankful to be chosen! Thanks to all that congratulated me, I’m glad you guys thought me a worthy Alpha of the Week! I really love being apart of this wonderful, creative fandom!
Lastly, more work will be posted here again soon, along with my drawing of Shelley some seen on Wolf Watch! … I will be logging in more, I’ve been terrible with updates! xD I do post more regularly on Twitter, if you want to follow me there my username is @wheretheywander :)
This is something that will probably happen in the near future! Thanks for your interest :)
Thank you so much anon, I’m glad you recognised my work! I’m still in shock, was an honour to be choosen to be one of the Alphas of the Week! :)
